VoiceTranslator Help


1. "VoiceTranslator" main dialog:


1. To activate the speech recognition.
2. Launches the translation process whenever the text in the input box (#3) changes, after a time delay that is set with button "Set time delay" (#10)
3. This edit box contains the text to translate.
4. Launches the translation process manually.
5. Clears the input box (#3).
6. To show the options dialog.
7. Exits the program.
8. When checked the speech recognized text is copied only to the "Recognized text history" box (#43), and not to the "Text to translate" input box.
9. Searches translations for the recognition hypothesis in the local dictionaries.
10. Shows the dialog to set the time delay before launching the translation automatically when the text in the input box "Text to translate" (#3) changes.
11. Shows the speech recognition hypothesis. The speech recognition engine makes some hypothesis of what the user is saying before a sentence is ended.
12. When checked a translation is searched in the Google translation service.
13. List box to select the Google translation language pair.
14. When checked the Google translation is spoken with the Text To Speech engine.
15. To add the Google translation to the personal dictionaries, that can be used even offline.
16. Shows the translation from Google.
17. When checked a translation is searched in the Babelfish translation service.
18. List box to select the Babelfish translation language pair.
19. When checked the Babelfish translation is spoken with the Text To Speech engine.
20. To add the Babelfish translation to the personal dictionaries, that can be used even offline.
21. Shows the translation from Babelfish.
22. When checked a translation is searched in the Freetranslation translation service.
23. List box to select the Freetranslation translation language pair.
24. When checked the Freetranslation translation is spoken with the Text To Speech engine.
25. To add the Freetranslation translation to the personal dictionaries, that can be used even offline.
26. Shows the translation from Freetranslation.
27. When checked a translation is searched in the local dictionaries.
28. List box to select the local dictionaries translation language pair.
29. When checked the local dictionaries translation is spoken with the Text To Speech engine.
30. Shows the translation from the local dictionaries.
31. The original text of a translation pair to be added to the local dictionaries.
32. The translation of a translation pair to be added to the local dictionaries.
33. Adds the translation pair (original text and translation) to the personal dictionary. If it is selected so in the options dialog, shows the "Add translation confirmation dialog".
34. Removes the last translation added to the personal dictionary.
35. Activates the hotkey to fill the boxes #31 and #32. When activated, if the hotkey combination is pressed the text currently selected is added first to the original text box, and secondly to the translation box.
36. When checked, the translation is added automatically to the dictionary when both boxes are filled. Equals to automatically press the button Add (#33) after both boxes are filled.
37. When checked, the first letter of the speech recognized text is set as uppercase.
38. When checked, the punctuation marks specified in #39 are added to the recognized text.
39. A list box with some combinations of punctuation marks.
40. This list box shows and selects the speech recognition engine.
41. To train the recognition engine with an audio file and its transcription. When pressed a dialog to select a transcription text file is shown, and after the engine training dialogs.
42. This box shows all the sentences recognized by the speech recognition engine.
43. This button clears the contents of the "Recognized text history"
44. When checked, if some text is selected in the "Recognized text history" (#42) (for example with the mouse) it is copied to the "Text to translate" input box (#3)
45. When checked, shows expressions similar to the original text present in the local dictionary. If a expression is double clicked, its translation is shown in the local dictionary translation box (#30)
46. Listbox with the expressions similar to the original text present in the local dictionary.
47. Shows the currently selected Text To Speech voice.
48. Stops the current TTS voice sound.
49. Pauses/Continues with the current TTS voice sound.
50. Selects a TTS voice from the ones installed in the system.
51. Repeats the last spoken sentence.
52. Opens a text file with a list of words (each one in one line) Useful for entering translations for a list of words in a systematic way.
53. Sends recognized speech to the "Text to translate" text box.
54. Shows the About dialog and the computer ID.

2. "Set options" dialog:


1. When checked the program is mininized to the system tray instead of the Windows taskbar.
2. When checked the window is set as the topmost window, to remain always visible.
3. When checked a translation banner with the translation is shown over the system tray.
4. Sets the source to be shown in the translation banner.
5. When checked the original text is also shown.
6. When checked the program checks if can find the translation as a combination of expressions present in the local dictionaries, and not only as isolated expressions.
7. Sets the maximum number of words in combinations. This number must be very small, or the search can be very time consuming (and eventually hang the program).
8. When checked the programs shows the confirmation dialog before adding a translation pair to the local dictionaries. It is useful to avoid mistakes.
9. When checked, the program checks if an updated version of the program exits when it starts.
10. Sets the font size used in the main text boxes.
11. When checked, the translations added to the local dictionaries are also uploaded to the online dictionaries.
12. When checked the speech recognized text is played back with the current TTS voice.
13. When checked the speech recognition is suspended while the Text To Speech voice is active.
14. Sets the base key for the hotkey combination.
15. Sets the ALT modifier for the hotkey combination.
16. Sets the CTRL modifier for the hotkey combination.
17. Sets the SHIFT modifier for the hotkey combination.
18. Sets the WIN KEY modifier for the hotkey combination.
19. The user name of your account in the online dictionaries. Needed for uploading new translations.
20. The password of your account in the online dictionaries. Needed for uploading new translations.

3. "Add new translation to the local dictionary" confirmation dialog:



In this dialog you can confirm, modify or cancel the addition of a new translation pair (original text and translation) to the local (and also online) dictionaries.

4. "Voice Selection" dialog:



1. Shows the TTS Voice currently selected.
2. Sets the voice rate (speed)
3. Sets the voice volume
4. Set the voice format.
5. Save the changes.
6. Cancel the changes.

5. "Set delay time for automatic translation" dialog:



Sets the time delay before the translation is launched whenever the text in the input box changes.

6. "About VoiceTranslator" dialog:


You can show the About Voicetranslator dialog by right clicking in the title bar.






Shows your computer ID code.

7. Program minimized to the system tray

When the program is minimized to the system tray you can see the next icon



You can right click on the icon and Enable/Disable the speech recognition, open the Options dialog and Exit the program



When the program is disabled, the icon appears as grey.



8. Information banners

If this option is activated, a banner is shown over the system tray whenever the program makes a translation or adds a new definition the local dictionaries.
